I've created an optional updated version in which Ralph's movement is less predictable, alongside a few other difficulty-related changes. Not posting it as an update on itch in case people like the original version better, but you can get it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/189xRO1HrxKGRdyizTjZ3PJwyd4SITNcn/view?usp=shari...

You still need the non-.exe files from the itch release.

Also, I do recommend the alternate low-pass filtered audio files.

The only thing that is missing is some sounds and graphics.
The sound that plays as Ralph moves and the smoke clouds for the top part of the building Ralph breaks.

Those are intentionally omitted.

I saw the sound playing for Ralph moving to be unnecessary, and the smoke cloud would just be too large to actually be displayed on hardware of this time, especially with all the graphics space that's already used.

That's fair. It looks and feels more faithful to the movie compared to the actual official arcade game.

how do you set settings?

Change the values in the settings.txt file, as described in readme.txt

If there's any platform I'm kind of interested in porting this to in the future it'd be the ZX Spectrum Next, I also think it'd be awesome to get some way to run it on a Raspberry Pi (would a GMS port work?)

uh I played the game and none of my keyboard keys worked, is there a reason for that?

edit: nvm I fount out the problem and fixed it

alright

This game made me hate birds.

Felix is canonically afraid of ducks so it works out

When running from a command line it errors out that it can't find the pop sound file. Is there anyway to run it from a command line?

Is the game executable in the same directory as the snd folder? If it is and it still doesn't work, try the XP version

(1 edit)

Yup it is. It works perfext if I double click on it from windows, but if running from a command line (CMD window) it won't run. I tried all three versions. Would be nice so I can run from my Emulation Station.

That's odd, it works fine for me, maybe rename the exe to something simpler or without spaces?

It is. And I did try renaming as you suggested. So when you go to a Dos (CMD) prompt and run the exe it doesn't error out?

Correct, it does not, at least running it through Windows command prompt (cmd.exe). What version of Windows are you using?

solo quisiera que la pnatalla se pueda ajustar al gusto y que se puedan cambiar los controles

Those options can be changed in the ini files

I'm trying to play this but it doesn't seem to work right... I keep getting errors that sounds don't exist. Sound also just doesn't work.

Do you have the "snd" folder in the same directory as the .exe? Everything else in the zip needs to be in the same directory too

Oh wait, looks like I forgot to include the required files in the most recent update, fixed that now

Hi, I now played this Fix-It Felix Jr. version, and compared to the movie version, It really makes sense to have been a real game from the 1980s (at least speaking in the sound section, which is faithful to the era like the Commodore 64 version), which makes the other looks like a pseudo-retro pixel-art game (like many indie games).

And also the gameplay is faster.

The only thing missing would be a Sugar Rush with true 1997 graphics (from Nintendo 64 & PS1); Wait! It was already going to see a project like that, but it ended up being cancelled.

Admittedly it would be pretty awesome to see a version of Sugar Rush feeling like it runs on ZN arcade hardware (based on PS1 hardware)

(1 edit)

In that case, Vanellope & other Sugar Rush racers should look like a combination of the proportions of the Sugar Rush 64 models plus the pixelated cartoon expressions of Frogun & Megaman Legends, to make them look cuter.

That would rule

Lol! Yes.

And also, a Sugar Rush with that graphic style for that time, it would have been a more than competent game compared to Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing.

True, the gameplay would also probably have a few elements of arcade racers of the time like Daytona USA, Cruis'n, San Francisco Rush, Ridge Racer, etc
